This imposing structure, dating from the 15th century, bears witness to the region's rich military past. Each Tarascon facade tells a story

A few steps from the Château du Roy René, I leave the Rhône behind me and head towards the Sainte Marthe abbey, a mecca of spiritual history.

The religious building dedicated to the city's patron saint is impressive. Its elegant silhouette and rich decorations bear witness to the importance of faith in the daily life of the inhabitants of Tarascon throughout the ages.

Travel along rue des Halles

Strolling through narrow and winding streets, I discover the charming stone houses with colorful shutters, casting a discreet glance at the surprising interior courtyards and silent witnesses of the past centuries. Each facade, each gargoyle, each entrance door seems to tell a different story, recalling the traditional craftsmanship and ancestral know-how that have shaped the identity of Tarascon.

Wandering through pleasantly shaded alleyways, I discover the pedestrian street, the street of the old market halls. Continuing my walk, I let myself be guided by the captivating scent of the local market, where local products rub shoulders with Provençal specialties. The stalls overflow with juicy fruits, fragrant cheeses and exquisite wines, offering a feast for the senses and the soul.

The weekly Provençal market takes place on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 13 p.m. on the Cours Aristide Briand, the Avenue de la République, the Rue des Halles, the Place de la Mairie (non-sedentary traders of textiles and other goods) and the Place Verdun (non-sedentary food traders).
