This bubble of oxygen is located on Avenue de Plaisance in Saint-Martin de Crau, a few steps from the city center. It is very popular, particularly with walkers and families who like to relax there or simply observe its natural riches. Here is Gaston’s Garden!
THE SOUL OF GASTON’S GARDEN
In Saint-Martin-de-Crau, the arboretum is a must-see tourist site which extends over more than 4 hectares. His name was not chosen at random. Gaston Therras, former Saint-Martin elected official, was a nature lover. He knew the history and environment of Crau better than anyone. In the 90s, he worked fervently for the creation of an arboretum. In June 2004 this magnificent green space was inaugurated in his presence. A moving moment that those present still remember. Since then, this garden has continued to attract and charm residents and walkers from the surrounding area.

The arboretum is ideal for botanical discoveries. There are more than 150 species of trees and shrubs, conifers and deciduous trees. The microclimate that reigns there has allowed the planting of azaleas, rhododendrons and even bulbs (aromatic ferns) which beautify the park at the beginning of spring. These are daffodils, crocuses, daffodils, etc. The main path is lined with numerous species of trees with decorative bark. These are birches, prunus, Virginia tulip trees as well as species native to various continents.
When the foliage of the trees gently turns yellow-red and the golden ornaments envelop the garden, one thing is certain: autumn is knocking at the door. Ideal season to discover liquidambar, Japanese maple or even ginko.
GASTON’S GARDEN WILDLIFE SIDE
This 4-hectare garden benefits from 1 meters of pedestrian routes and is home to around forty ornithological species: pigeons, peacocks, doves, pheasants and a beautiful collection of ornamental ducks identifiable thanks to a dedicated display.
An aviary also houses various birds including majestic peacocks.
Children also enjoy discovering the insect house. Nest and hibernation place for useful insects, it promotes the biological protection of gardens. It encourages the pollination of plants grown in the garden and helps species coexist in nature. Some insects like the place: ladybugs, earwigs, butterflies, wild bees, mason bees and solitary wasps.

Four seasons and at least four good reasons to enjoy this garden! To disconnect, take a walk, have a picnic or even take a nap. Accessible all year round, it also hosts cultural activities that appeal to young and old alike.
